Introduction to Sheet Metal Fabrication Machinery
Sheet metal fabrication is basically the process of producing thin metal plates by using many different kinds of sheet metal fabrication machinery. Although not many people are familiar with this fact, there are numerous different types of sheet metal fabrication machinery – and the reason for this is more logical than people might think. Namely, the reason why there are so many different types of sheet metal fabrication machinery is the fact that the process of the fabrication is very complicated and the fact that there are many different stages throughout the process, which are all equally important. Also, it has to be mentioned that these types of machinery have become very advanced and sophisticated over time, and that the process of fabrication itself is today more interesting, complicated and fascinating than ever.

The Importance of Sheet Metal Fabrication Machinery
Firstly, it is important to understand the importance of sheet metal in our everyday lives before talking about the importance of sheet metal fabrication machinery. This means that it is a fact that sheet metal is something everybody uses directly or indirectly in their everyday lives. For example, any vehicle cannot be manufactured without the usage of sheet metal. Besides this, sheet metal is a material used for many household items such as ironing boards, furniture, personal computers, kitchen appliances and many other ordinary items all of people use every single day. When this is understood, it is easy to comprehend the importance of the different types of machinery used in the process of fabricating sheet metal. Namely, knowing that the whole process is very complicated and that it has to be meticulously performed, the machinery used in the process has to be reliable, efficient and precise.
Different Types of Sheet Metal Fabrication Machinery
As it has already been mentioned, the machinery used in fabricating sheet metal is very diverse. There are many different stages in the process of fabricating sheet metal, and the types of machinery used in each of the stages vary significantly. Here are some of the types of machinery used in fabricating sheet metal:
- Press brake – this type of machinery is used to form sheet metal into the desired shape. These types of machinery can be very sophisticated, forming sheet metal into sizes defined by fractions of millimetres, and they can be controlled by a computer.
- Punch press – punch presses are used to form holes in the sheet metal, and they are a type of sheet metal machinery which is used in many situations, as they are practical and precise.
- Roll-forming machine – these machines are mainly used for forming seams and flanges on thin sheet metal materials, but they can also be used for thicker sheet metals.
- Plate bending machine – these machines are used for bending sheet metal into many different shapes. When it comes to types of these machines, there are many different types, each of which is used for bending different sheet metal materials into different shapes.
